The Keeper of the Prophet’s Secrets
When Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) was young, he was a servant of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Anas used to play with the other boys in Madinah.
One day while Anas was playing, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed them. He stopped and greeted the boys, and then he asked Anas to go somewhere to do something for him.
After doing his errand for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, Anas returned home late. When his mother asked him why he was late, he said, “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, wanted me to do something for him.
His mother asked, “What?”
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “It is a secret.”
His mother did not insist on knowing the secret. On the contrary, she was happy that her son was honest and wise. She encouraged him to keep the Prophet’s secrets. She said to her son, “Son, never tell anyone the secrets of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.”
Thus throughout his life, Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) was the keeper of the Prophet’s secrets and the secrets of other people as well.
